<p>A family we know – a husband and wife in their forties, with kids in school – still depend heavily on their parents financially.</p>



<p>The worst part is, they’re not even thankful to their parents. Maybe it’s a self-protective mechanism of sorts: the moment they express gratitude, they’d have to admit they’re leeching off them. So instead, they make their parents depend on them for small things, like making online reservations, and claim their parents have no choice but to rely on them.</p>



<p>Their parents are wealthy, but they were self-made. This couple? It’s hard for me to associate the term “self-made” with them.</p>



<p>Why am I sharing this here on LinkedIn? Because to me, this couple is a reminder that there are two kinds of people in the world: those who build things from nothing, and those who depend on others while bad-mouthing the very people they rely on, instead of being grateful.</p>



<p>Builders and founders. The ones who might have been dealt lousy hands but still dream big and build from zero. There are only a few of them in this world. That’s why they’re so valuable and so beautiful.</p>
