People usually talk about leaving Windows and moving to macOS or vice versa, but in my day job as a technical writer, I often find myself switching back and forth between both OSes.</p><p id="0419">Of course, zsh or bash are great too. But I’ve gotten to the point where I want to use a single shell if possible,</p><p id="d384">So, after much deliberation, I committed the atrocity(!) of choosing Powershell as the default terminal shell for macOS. Unless you have an infrastructure that uses ARM instances like AWS Graviton, you’re probably going to be using x86_64 instances anyway, and it’s stressful to have to keep track of image types.</p><p id="d981">Consider putting the code below into your profile script only if you need to.</p><pre><span id="d374">$env:DOCKER_DEFAULT_PLATFORM="linux/amd64"</span></pre><h2 id="af74">Wrapping Up</h2><p id="ea6c">A lot has changed since PowerShell went open source, and I think it’s now mature and stable enough to consider adopting it as your default shell on Linux or Mac OS.</p><p id="26e5">I’d love to hear from others who, like me, use PowerShell as their default terminal on macOS.</p><h2 id="4307">Full source code</h2><p id="ac56">For the full script, take a look at the Gist code below.</p><figure></figure></div></div>
