Useful for distributed ML training where you only need N-of-M worker completions.</p><hr><h2 id="what-to-unlearn">What to Unlearn</h2><h3 id="1-helm-as-your-primary-abstraction">1. In 2025-2026, with tighter engineering budgets, cost visibility has become table stakes.</p><p>Key patterns:</p><ol><li><strong>Namespace-level cost allocation</strong> — every team sees what their workloads cost</li><li><strong>VPA + KEDA instead of over-provisioning</strong> — scale resources to actual usage rather than worst-case estimates</li><li><strong>Spot/preemptible nodes for batch workloads</strong> — 60–80% compute cost reduction for fault-tolerant jobs</li><li><strong>Graviton/Ampere ARM nodes</strong> — 20-40% cost/performance improvement for general workloads</li></ol><p>OpenCost is the CNCF standard for cost attribution.
